Meet Our Writers: Rosie Goddard

We chatted to writer + Best Lover Rosie Goddard about isolation tips, a few of her favourite things + the songs she’s currently got on repeat

What do you do for a living?

I’m the Content Director for an eyewear brand in London called For Art’s Sake. Sometimes I write too.

What do you want to do for a living?

Writer / Interior Designer.

Your favourite place in the world?

The Karoo or my family house in Devon.

What is something you like about yourself?

I can get over a fight in 2.5 seconds. It used to infuriate my siblings.

What is one item you own that makes you instantly feel great when you wear it?

All of my gold rings and earrings. I never take them off.

My straight-leg black jeans.

What is your worst lockdown habit?

Getting distracted and not finishing tasks.

Your hottest isolation tip?

Don’t get into baking if you have no self control. I made a cheesecake and we’ve been eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner ever since.

What is the one book you find yourself recommending to people all the time?

Book of Longing by Leonard Cohen. A beautiful collection of his poems from the last few decades. I’ve read it so many times but I always discover new lines.

A Little Life – Hanya Yanagihara. Took me months to pick up another book.

On the playlist:

Beam Me Up - Midnight Magic

She - The Blaze

Cosmic Dancer - T. Rex

Moon – Kid Francescoli

Lover Chanting - Little Dragon

Space Song - Beach House

Call it Fate, Call It Karma - The Strokes

Str8 Outta Mumbai – Jai Paul

Olympic - French 79

Isabella – Isaac Delusion

What's the best and worst meal you've ever had in your life? Where did you have them?

Best: Really simple, fresh seafood on a tiny island in Mozambique.

Worst: I was in Lisbon with two friends, and we thought we’d found this incredibly authentic Portuguese restaurant. We copied the people at the table next to us and ordered fish soup, but realised we’d made a massive error when it arrived cold, with fish heads bobbing in it. To add insult to injury, it cost more than any of our other meals during the trip, but we screamed with laughter and it’s still one of my favourite memories to date.

What is your favourite ornament/item of furniture in your home?

A little pot on my dresser, given to me by my granny that says: “Long may you live and be happy”.

Artworks done for me by my brother and sister (he’s an artist and she’s an illustrator).

A hand-blown glass head from La Soufflerie in Paris.

I’ve been collecting tiny wicker chairs for a few years now. They’re in South Africa but I recently found a mini peacock chair at a flea market in London, which I love.

What is your holy grail make-up/skincare product?

The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream. It sorts these puppies right out.

Anything by The Skin Creamery. I love that it’s natural and I bring their moisturiser, oil, and milky cleanser back to London with me.

What habit/ritual do you do each day to keep you sane?

Reading my book before bed. Writing down one line a day.

What something you've had to learn the hard way in your 20s?

Nothing lasts forever – people change, relationships change, and when something feels like the end of the world, it might just be the best thing that could have happened to you.

And also, your parents pretty much always know when you’re lying.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’ve never liked thinking too far ahead, but in an ideal world, Plan A would be to develop a groundbreaking app or write a wildly popular sex novel, make millions and buy a commune for me and my friends to live on. Failing that, I want to be freelance writing and living in a home which I own and spend all my spare time decorating, with my future dog, Frank Ocean. With what money after corona you ask? I guess that’s tbc.

Size Guide

We want you to be entirely satisfied with the way your ring fits. That means we need a little help from you before you choose your size.

Step One

Take a piece of string and wrap it around the base of your finger.

Step Two

Using a pen, mark the point on the string where the end meets.

Step Three

Using a ruler, measure this length in mm.

Step Four

Match your measurement to the table below.

Extra Tips

Don’t forget to allow for enough room to get the ring over your knuckle.

Remember that all of your fingers probably have different measurements. Make sure you measure the specific finger you are buying the ring for.

To be 100% sure, measure your finger at the end of the day. That’s when it is most likely to be at its largest.

51.9mm circumference
US 7
54.4mm circumference
US 8
